What is a Power of Attorney?
A power of attorney (POA) is a document that allows you to appoint a person or organisation to manage your affairs if you become unable to do so. There are different types of POAs, each having different features with regards to the power held by the donee (the person acting on your behalf) and the limits to their power. Visit this link to see the different types of POAs available.
Why Would I need a Power of Attorney?
You might need it for a variety of reasons, such as in the event that you become incapacitated or are growing older and suffer from memory loss/or not in the right mental state to make major decisions.
Do I need a Lawyer for this?
Because creating the POA deals with legal processes, a lawyer might be required to draft the document. Your Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) will also have to be witnessed and certified by an LPA certificate issuer, who are accredited medical practitioners, practising lawyers, or registered psychiatrists.
